State Grant to Refurbish Orwigsburg Sidewalks

ORWIGSBURG – Rep. Jamie Barton (R-124) and staff from Sen. Dave Argall’s (R-29) office visited Orwigsburg Borough to see deteriorating sidewalks that are set to be restored after a state grant for $500,000 was awarded to the borough. The project will replace sidewalks, curbs, and make safety improvements on two blocks of Market Street from Liberty to Wayne Street, around the town square.

Additional sidewalks in the area have already been repaired through private investments by local employers and residents of Market Street. Orwigsburg Borough Manager Randy Miller emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to completing this work.

“On behalf of the Borough Council of the Borough of Orwigsburg, and our citizens, I want to take this opportunity to thank Senator Dave Argall and Representative Jamie Barton for their continued support and tireless efforts to help the residents of our region,” said Miller. “Their support in Harrisburg is greatly appreciated.”

“New sidewalks don’t just improve the value of a property or community; they offer a safe pathway for walkers, joggers and strollers,” Barton said. “They also invite people from out of town to visit and shop in our communities. There is no shortage of superb small businesses here in Orwigsburg, and I hope this funding ensures the borough’s sidewalks will continue to lead plenty of people to their doors for many years to come!”

“Refurbishing the sidewalks on Market Street will be a significant improvement for residents, visitors, and local employers,” said Argall. “I was able to work with Rep. Barton and Orwigsburg officials to guide this highly competitive funding to the borough. Between this funding and the many new beautiful apartments located at the former St. Francis orphanage, exciting things are happening in Orwigsburg!”

This grant were approved during a public meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF). The MTF, as created by the General Assembly, provides funding to encourage economic development and a safe, reliable system of transportation to residents of Pennsylvania.
