White Haven Awarded State Grant for Sidewalk and Streetscape Improvements

HARRISBURG — White Haven Borough was recently awarded $350,000 to improve sidewalks and streetscapes and create a new multi-use trail along Main Street, according to Rep. Jamie Walsh (R-117) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29). The project will make it safer for residents and visitors to walk through town, improve accessibility and support continued revitalization efforts in the borough.

“This funding is a significant investment in White Haven’s future,” said Linda Szoke, borough manager. “Enhancing our sidewalks and streetscapes will improve safety, accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike, while supporting the ongoing revitalization of our downtown and Main Street corridor. We are grateful for the commonwealth’s support and for the advocacy of our legislative partners in helping move these important improvements forward.”

“I’m happy to see this investment in White Haven’s future,” Walsh said. “These improvements will make the community safer and more accessible while supporting local businesses and tourism. Projects like this strengthen our economy and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”

“I am pleased that White Haven has been awarded this important funding,” Argall said. “With its detailed Blueprint Community revitalization plans, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway bringing new visitors into the borough from Jim Thorpe, Pittston and beyond, the continued development of the D&L Trail’s outdoor recreation connections, and new community development, library and infrastructure grants, White Haven is taking some major steps forward for residents, businesses and visitors.”

This funding was awarded through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation. The grants were approved during a public meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency which administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
