HARRISBURG – Sen. Dave Argall (R-29), Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123), and Rep. JoAnne Stehr (R-107) announced that $2.3 million was awarded to Schuylkill County schools from the Solar for Schools program to install solar arrays on roofs or grounds, saving money on energy bills.
“I’m pleased to see Minersville Area and North Schuylkill school districts receiving grant funding through this innovative program,” said Twardzik. “Investing in solar energy with the assistance of these grants helps reduce electric costs for these schools. This program, along with continuing investment in legacy energy, will help ensure Pennsylvania has the energy needed for our growing economy.”
“This grant funding offers Tri-Valley and Williams Valley school districts a valuable opportunity to expand renewable energy projects,” said Stehr. “Lowering energy costs and encouraging sustainability are important goals that will benefit both our district and the Commonwealth.”
“This bipartisan program will save taxpayers millions in the coming years,” said Argall. “I’m grateful these local schools secured these highly competitive dollars.”
The following schools received funding:
- Minersville Area School District – $500,000 for the Llewellyn Early Childhood Center
- North Schuylkill School District – $500,000 for North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School
- Tri-Valley School District – $400,000 for Hegins-Hubley Elementary School
- Tri-Valley School District – $400,000 for Tri-Valley Jr/Sr High School
- Williams Valley School District – $500,000 for Williams Valley Jr/Sr High School
Solar for Schools is designed to reduce energy costs for schools by helping install solar arrays. Funding is awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency created by the General Assembly to administer investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
