HARRISBURG – Two projects in the 29th Senatorial District were awarded state grants to support planning for future recreational areas and economic development, according to State Senator David G. Argall (R-29). Carbon County will receive $50,000 to update its plans for future trails, greenways, and open spaces. The city of Hazleton will receive $35,000 to create a comprehensive plan with Greater Hazleton municipalities West Hazleton and Hazle Township to address quality of life and economic development improvements.
“These competitive state grants could be very impactful for future projects in Carbon County and the Hazleton area,” said Senator Argall. “As the new state Senator for these areas, I’m curious to see what changes may come to the region because of this new funding.”
“The city appreciates and is grateful for the support from DCED, Senator Argall and others, who have helped the municipalities in the Greater Hazleton Area acquire this important funding,” said Jeff Cusat, Mayor, City of Hazleton. “This multi-municipal comprehensive plan is important to sustaining a successful economic future for the Greater Hazleton Area and its residents as we continue to see historic economic growth occurring throughout our region.”

This updated plan will help to ensure we keep Carbon County beautiful, protecting water quality, working farms and wildlife habitats, while continuing to support economic growth opportunities spurred from our recreational assets.”
These two grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Municipal Assistance Program, which provides funding to assist local governments with planning and efficiently implementing improvements to their services.
