HARRISBURG — Schuylkill Technology Center has been awarded a $242,052 state grant through PennDOT’s Career and Technical Education grant program, according to Reps. Tim Twardzik (R-123), JoAnne Stehr (R-107), Jamie Barton (R-124) and Dane Watro (R-116), and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29).
The funding will help the school expand its technical training programs by incorporating hands-on experience and skill development opportunities in Pennsylvania’s heavy highway industry. Students in diesel technology, outdoor power technology, automotive technology and auto collision technology programs will benefit from the expanded training. These careers include construction inspectors, mechanics, laborers, electricians, welders, painters, cost estimators and surveyors.
The Career and Technical Education program, administered by PennDOT in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, helps educational institutions expand existing programs or develop new training opportunities to prepare students for in-demand jobs and meet the highway industry’s workforce needs.
