HAZLETON – Rep. Dane Watro (R-116) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) today announced $1,656,790 in Local Share Account grants have been approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for eight municipal projects in Luzerne and Schuylkill counties.
“Most of these projects are the kind of bread-and-butter investments our municipalities need – road work, public works equipment, storage and reliable facilities,” Watro said. “Getting state gaming revenue back into our communities helps local officials tackle real needs without pushing all of the cost onto property taxpayers.”
“I am pleased to see these highly competitive funds coming back to our local communities, providing better infrastructure and improved public services for local residents,” said Argall.
The grants are:
- East Union Township – $250,000 – To pave approximately 1,950 linear feet of currently dirt and gravel roads in Cove Village, including portions of Stratton, St. Moritz and Alpine drives, Snow Ridge Circle and Jay Peak Lane.
- Hazle Township – $136,284 – To purchase three box trucks for the township road crew to use for street and inlet repairs, road-sign work and maintenance of township property.
- Union Township – $76,362 – To rehabilitate and pave deteriorated public tennis courts used by youth programs and community residents.
- Hazleton – $319,144 – For Broad Street improvements between South Laurel and North Wyoming streets, including work to the center median, crosswalk and stop-bar markings, parking-lane markings, traffic-calming features, electrical work and landscaping.
- McAdoo Borough – $450,000 – To repair and repave deteriorated borough roads, including streets that have not been paved in decades.
- McAdoo Fire Company – $118,930 – To make upgrades to the company’s Keystone Station facility in Banks Township, Carbon County.
- Ringtown Borough – $200,000 – For the Tanner Street storage-facility roof project, including removal of the existing roof and deteriorated wood, a new metal roof, siding, gutters and related work to protect municipal equipment and materials.
- Shenandoah Borough – $225,000 – To help modernize an aging public works fleet used for road maintenance, stormwater work, snow removal and emergency response.
Local Share Account funds are generated under the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest across Pennsylvania. The authority was established in 2004 as an independent agency to administer Pennsylvania economic development programs and investments.
