Schuylkill County Historical Society Awarded State Grant

HARRISBURG –– The Schuylkill County Historical Society was awarded a Cultural and Historical Support Grant of $9,000 by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), according to Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Reps. Tim Twardzik (R-123), Jamie Barton (R-124), Joanne Stehr (R-107) and Dane Watro (R-116).

“We are very pleased the Schuylkill County Historical Society was approved for this funding,” said the lawmakers. “Preserving our past for future generations is critically important, and the Schuylkill County Historical Society does a wonderful job of doing that at its museum.”

Located in downtown Pottsville, the society is an educational resource for the public offering priceless artifacts and collections, interactive tours, seminars, genealogical resources, special exhibits, events and educational programs for young people.

The goal of the Cultural and Historical Support Grant program is to strengthen the commonwealth’s museum community by supporting the general operations of eligible museums and county historical societies that are not assisted by other state agency funding programs. PHMC recently approved $3.8 million in funding for 177 eligible museums and historical societies in 59 counties.
