HARRISBURG — State grants totaling more than $1.3 million were awarded to communities in eastern Schuylkill County today. Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Jamie Barton (R-124) worked with local leaders to secure this highly competitive funding.
“Towns and neighborhoods in all corners of Schuylkill County will benefit from this funding,” said Argall.
“There are a lot of projects across the commonwealth, so we had to convince the authority that this work was worthy of funding,” Barton said. “I’m glad they could tell how important these efforts will be to our area, and hopefully this funding will allow these organizations to get these projects underway!”
- Delano Township was awarded $152,000 to make parking improvements along Birch Street.
- East Brunswick Township was awarded $302,000 to purchase a new dump truck.
- Orwigsburg Borough was awarded $585,000 to restore the exterior of their historic borough hall building and police office, which was originally constructed in 1889 as the Orwigsburg Public School.
- Tamaqua Borough, on behalf of the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association, was awarded $290,000 to purchase a new ambulance.
This funding was awarded through the Statewide Local Share Account program, which distributes gaming revenue to economic development projects.
The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
