Argall TV Report: Senator for a Day Hosts Hundreds of Local Students

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN – The January edition of the local TV program hosted by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) highlights his annual “Senator for a Day” program.

“It’s really cool to see a whole bunch of people come out here and talk about their political ideas,” said one student who participated in the program. “I’m not a big fan of politics, but this totally changed my mind on just how politics works.”

Hundreds of students from high schools in Schuylkill, Carbon, and Luzerne Counties participated in two separate events at Career and Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe and Penn State Schuylkill in Schuylkill Haven.

Students were given the chance to discuss and debate real legislation currently under consideration in Harrisburg, including bills to require later school start times, drug testing for welfare recipients, and voter ID.

“This is one of my favorite events of the year,” Argall said. “As the chair of the Senate Education Committee, the proud son of two public school teachers, and a very part-time college instructor, I’ve learned that some of the best education takes place outside of the classroom.”

Local teachers are encouraged to reach out to any of Argall’s offices if they are interested in learning more about this program or registering for the next event.

Argall also encourages local high school students and college students to contact him if they would be interested in shadowing him for a day or applying for an internship.
