June Argall Report: Promoting Work, Not Welfare

HARRISBURG – The June edition of the local TV program hosted by Senator David G. Argall (R-29) features efforts to reduce fraud and abuse within Pennsylvania’s welfare system and promote work for able-bodied individuals currently receiving benefits.

“With so many employers across Pennsylvania looking to hire new employees, we should ensure that our government assistance programs are guiding people back to the workforce,” said Senator Argall.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Pennsylvania’s labor force participation rate is 60.8%, the lowest it has ever been. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services determined that hundreds of thousands of non-disabled adults between the ages of 19 to 64 are receiving millions in government assistance rather than working.

Recently, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee passed two bills sponsored by Senator Argall which would prevent potential fraud and abuse within the state’s welfare system.

“If we were able to enact meaningful welfare changes under President Bill Clinton, a Democrat and a Republican-controlled Congress, why can’t we do it again?” Senator Argall continued.
