HARRISBURG – Minersville Borough will receive an additional $495,236 grant to expand a downtown revitalization effort to improve pedestrian safety along Sunbury Street, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-Berks/Schuylkill) and Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill).
“The borough is elated that this project can be completed,” said Borough Manager Bob Mahalchick. “We are grateful to our local legislators for their continued support of Minersville and our downtown revitalization efforts.”
“Bringing funding to our communities for improvements such as the street light project here in Minersville Borough is a rewarding part of our job,” said Twardzik. “Working alongside Sen. Argall and his knowledgeable staff helps move the process along when trying to gain additional investments for our area. These projects are important and improve the quality of life in Schuylkill County.”
“This investment in Minersville Borough, one of Schuylkill County’s oldest coal mining communities, will help breathe new life into their downtown area. This funding is highly sought after across Pennsylvania, so Tim and I are very pleased to see them receive this competitive grant,” said Argall.
Minersville will receive $495,236 from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to install nineteen new streetlights along Sunbury Street between 3rd Street and Delaware Avenue.
In 2019, this project began with the replacement of the sidewalks along this same corridor.
