July Argall Report: Breathing New Life into Tamaqua

TAMAQUA – The July edition of the local TV program hosted by Senator David G. Argall (R-Berks/Schuylkill) focuses on the ongoing revitalization of Tamaqua.

“Throughout Schuylkill and Berks Counties, we have seen some real progress, breathing new life into some of our downtowns. Tower City, Pottsville, Hamburg, Sinking Spring, many communities across the 29th District are finding new ways to reinvent themselves to attract more visitors and residents to the area that we call home,” said Senator Argall. “Civic organizations are teaming up with private sector leaders like Andy Muller of the Reading, Blue Mountain, and Northern Railroad and local, state, and federal officials to revitalize old, blighted structures to benefit the community.”

In this month’s Argall Report, Senator Argall and Representative Jerry Knowles (R-124) review a $5.7 million project creating 17 residential, upper level apartments in downtown Tamaqua, the largest single infrastructure improvement to take place downtown since a $3 million Victorian streetscape project fifteen years ago.

It also features the recently completed new passenger platform at the Tamaqua Train Station due to the efforts of Andy Muller, the railroad, and Tamaqua Borough Council’s President Dave Mace and Vice President Brian Connely. For years, the train station was a symbol of blight and decay. After a community effort to restore the property, it now again serves as a thriving restaurant attracting both residents and visitors.

“We’re just getting started with this revitalization,” Senator Argall continued. “There are ongoing revitalization projects taking place across Schuylkill and Berks Counties. Everyone involved in these ongoing efforts deserves our thanks for their hours of dedication in breathing new life into our communities.”
