Senator Argall’s Statement on Legislature Reduction Bill Passage in House

HARRISBURG – Senator David G. Argall (R-29) today released the following statement regarding House passage of House Bill 153, Speaker Smith’s legislation to downsize the House of Representatives from 203 to 153 members and the Senate from 50 to 38 members.

“I am pleased to see this important legislation move forward for the first time in decades,” said Argall, who authored similar legislation in the Senate and during his previous service in the House. “If we are going to get serious about spending cuts in these tough economic times, we need to approve this change. I applaud today’s vote in the House of Representatives to move to a smaller, more efficient state legislature. Once approved by the voters by constitutional amendment, I believe that this change will save our taxpayers $10 million per year once fully implemented.”
