Argall, Knowles Announce $12.4 Million for Deer Lake Sewer Upgrades through PennVEST

DEER LAKE – Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and Representative Jerry Knowles (R-124) today announced a $12,454,430 loan along with a $1,545,570 grant for upgrades and expansion of the Deer Lake sanitary sewer system.

The investments will be utilized for expanding Deer Lake’s waste water treatment plant. Projects will include constructing several miles of sewage collection lines and eliminating several small inadequate treatment plants. This will eliminate discharges from wildcat sewers and malfunctioning on-lot septic systems into local receiving systems and will also increase treatment capacity for local economic development.

“The state’s investment to protect our environment is important to the well-being and safety of the local residents,” said Argall. “I am pleased to see the state’s commitment to ensuring proper wastewater treatment through PennVEST. I applaud the efforts of Schuylkill County’s Municipal Authority and their Executive Director, Pat Caulfield. This is great news for the residents of Deer Lake and surrounding communities. These upgrades will place their treatment facilities in the 21st century.”

Representative Knowles added, “I am pleased that PennVEST has approved funding for this critical project for improvements and expansion that is badly needed. There has been a lot of effort put forward to help get this funding secured, and this project is going to bring about a good result for our area.”
