Argall, Goodman Announce Grant for Shenandoah’s Main Street Program

SHENANDOAH – Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and Representative Neal Goodman (D-123) announced today a grant for Shenandoah’s Main Street revitalization program. The Department of Community and Economic Development awarded the Borough of Shenandoah, on behalf of Downtown Shenandoah, Inc., $60,000 for the final state-funded phase of the Shenandoah Main Street Program.

Senator Argall toured downtown Shenandoah Friday with Mary Luscavage, Executive Director of Shenandoah Downtown, Inc., to see recent improvements designed to help local employers create additional jobs.

“We are all very grateful for the state fulfilling its promise on these much-needed grants,” said Luscavage. “We have accomplished a lot but still have work to do. I’m thankful for all of the volunteers and folks who have contributed into making Shenandoah a better place.”

“In these difficult economic times, we must find ways to assist local employers in our communities,” said Senator Argall during his tour. “Pennsylvania state government made a five year commitment to help revitalize downtown Shenandoah. We look at three components for revitalizing downtowns: Volunteers, public and private funding, and hardworking professionals like Mary. You cannot succeed without professional assistance nor can you do it without any volunteers. I’m thankful we have great volunteers and people like Mary that are dedicated to making Shenandoah a better place for all.”

Representative Goodman concluded, “Our older communities need a little help in the form of some state investment to help breathe new life into them,” Goodman said. “These targeted grants are money well spent, and in this case, will give Shenandoah a boost as it works to continue to make itself an even better place to work and live.”
