Argall Co-Sponsors Property Tax Reform for Seniors

HARRISBURG – State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) today announced that he will co-sponsor legislation to exempt homeowners who are at least 65 years old with a household income of $40,000 or less from paying increases in their school real property taxes.

The legislation will freeze or cap the amount of school real property tax for seniors. This tax exemption may be claimed each tax year. In addition to the age (65 and older) and income requirements ($40,000 and less/year), the taxpayer may not be delinquent in paying school real property taxes on the homestead.

“No one is immune to this recession, especially our senior citizens. We need to look at ways to alleviate the stress of this horrible economic downturn, especially for our seniors on a fixed income. This bill will allow seniors to keep more of their hard-earned money,” stated Argall.
