Argall, Knowles Praise Bill Honoring Late Senator James Rhoades

HARRISBURG – State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and Representative Jerry Knowles (R-124) today praised passage of legislation that would name the State Street (SR 4028) Bridge over the Schuylkill River in Hamburg Borough and Tilden Township, Berks County, as the Senator Jim Rhoades Memorial Bridge.

Introduced in June by Representative Knowles and approved today in the Senate, House Bill 2614 will now be sent to the Governor for his signature.

“Jim Rhoades was an extraordinary public official who served the people of this region proudly for so many years,” Argall said. “This is a fitting tribute to a fine man I was proud to call my friend.”

Knowles commented, “This certainly is a well-deserved tribute to a man who did so much, not only for the people of his senatorial district, but the people of Pennsylvania. He was a respected educator and coach, and an accomplished legislator . He is greatly missed by his friends, his colleagues, and his family.”

The process to name a bridge or stretch of state road after an individual is the same process used for standard legislation. Both the House and the Senate must pass a bill detailing the name change, at which time it is sent to the Governor for approval.
