Supporting Veterans in Jim ThorpeThank you to the hundreds of veterans from across the region who came to our recent Veterans Expo in Jim Thorpe. Thank you to Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, Rep. Doyle Heffley, and Carbon County Veterans Affairs for co-hosting this event with me. Connecting Veterans with Resources in PottsvilleI was recently invited to attend the Second Annual Veterans Awareness Fair, hosted by Schuylkill Community Action, at Alvernia University Pottsville CollegeTowne to thank our local veterans for their service and sacrifice. Seth Hubler from my office was on hand with information for veterans and their families. Thank you to Lisa Grigalonis and her team for putting on this important event. Argall Report: Supporting PA’s VeteransA recent edition of the Argall Report focuses on a very important issue: supporting Pennsylvania’s veterans. Earlier this year, I chaired a Senate hearing highlighting programs that help connect veterans with health care and meaningful employment. As Brig. Gen. Mark Goodwill of the Pennsylvania National Guard shared, the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs continues to do incredible work helping service members transition home. Helping our veterans find stability is the least we can do after their sacrifice. January 27: Veteran Service Officer DayMy office hosts monthly Veteran Service Officer Days to help veterans and their loved ones navigate and apply for benefits earned through military service. Attention Veterans: Shenandoah Valley Sports Locker & Veterans Support Fund is Here to Help!The mission of the Shenandoah Valley Sports Locker & Veterans Support Fund is to assist Schuylkill County veterans facing immediate hardships, including overdue utility bills, late rent or mortgage payments, unforeseen car expenses, or food insecurity. Veterans seeking assistance or more information about available services are encouraged to contact the Schuylkill County Veterans Affairs Office in Pottsville at 570-628-1400. Thank you all for undertaking this incredibly impactful work on behalf of local heroes. Valley Forge Military College Provides Opportunities for PA StudentsMany opportunities are available for young Pennsylvanians interested in education, leadership, and military service through Valley Forge Military College (VFMC) — The Military College of Pennsylvania. VFMC partners with state legislators to help students in our districts through several programs. Legislators can nominate qualified students for these programs.
These programs provide incredible opportunities for students to pursue higher education, develop leadership skills, and serve their communities—all while strengthening Pennsylvania’s future workforce. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Provides Comprehensive List of Veteran & Military DiscountsThe U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides a comprehensive list of veteran and military year-round discounts. To learn more about the discounts you may be eligible for, click here. Supporting Veteran-Owned BusinessesTo promote veteran-owned businesses, the Senate passed Senate Bill 64 requiring the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to create a logo that can be used by Pennsylvania businesses with at least 51% veteran ownership to designate themselves as a veteran-owned business to the public. With Senate Bill 64, DMVA will also make a database available on its website of veteran-owned businesses that applied for and were approved to use the logo. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Helping Disabled Veterans Enjoy Outdoor ActivitiesAll 100% disabled veterans in PA would be eligible for free hunting licenses under legislation passed by the Senate. If enacted, the bill would close a gap in state and ensure fair treatment for those injured in any service-related capacity. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Veterans Discount on NFL Sunday TicketVeterans are eligible for a discount of almost 60% off for NFL Sunday Ticket through ID.me. NFL Sunday Ticket gives fans the ability to watch their favorite NFL team’s out-of-market Sunday games, enjoy unlimited streams at home, view key plays and watch up to four live games on one screen in multiview.
