In this Update:
Engaging Young People in Our Political ProcessThe recent, tragic death of Charlie Kirk reminded me of an article that hung in my college dorm room decades ago which I now keep on my desk in my Mahanoy City office. The article stresses the importance of young people getting involved in our political process. Charlie encouraged young people from all walks of life to get involved in politics. Despite the many obstacles, I strongly encourage today’s young people to get involved in the process. We need you! Replacing Damaged License Plates in Tower CityThank you to the 30 people who joined Rep. JoAnne Stehr and our teams in Tower City to replace damaged license plates. A special thanks goes to Chief John Boyer who assisted with the event and carried out the plate inspections. We’ll be hosting more of these events soon. See the full list of my upcoming events here. This funding will help bring the Weissport community together for a celebration on July 4, 2026, featuring the Lehighton Area High School Marching Band, military veterans, civic organizations, and local dignitaries to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Take the Pottsville Community Perception SurveyThe Pottsville Area Development Corporation is inviting residents, business owners, and visitors of Pottsville to offer their opinion on a series of questions about the community by taking the following survey. The purpose of this survey is to learn how people feel about the business and residential district and to guide the organization in their revitalization strategies. This survey should take approximately 7-8 minutes. Respondents who share their email at the end of the survey will be entered to win $100 in gift cards from local stores downtown! Tuscarora and Locust Lake Project UpdatesThe ongoing work at Tuscarora Dam has concluded, which allowed for DCNR to start refilling the lake on Thursday. However, it should be noted that unexpected issues could cause delays. The speed at which the lake refills will largely depend on the weather. DCNR has been working closely with the Fish & Boat Commission regarding fish stocking, which has been delayed. A stocking date will be determined once the lake returns to normal conditions. Additionally, the repaving project for the multi-use trail around Locust Lake State Park is set to start on October 20th. This project will cause a complete closure of the heavily used trail for about 3-4 weeks. This work is essential to repair the trail surface, ensuring public safety while traversing the trail, as well as to replace or repair several culverts. October is Breast Cancer Awareness MonthOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and support the fight for a cure. I recently voted for Senate Bill 88, which expands no-cost breast cancer screenings and ensures follow-up imaging is covered, so no one must delay care because of cost. This bill is currently under consideration by the House of Representatives. Remember that it is important to know your risk! One in eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection is crucial, as the five-year survival rate for early-stage cases is more than 90%. Learn more here.
