Tonight’s Live PCN Call-In Show Will Focus on State Budget, Property Tax Elimination

I look forward to answering questions from across the state with Senate Democrat Leader Jay Costa during a live call-in show TONIGHT (February 25) at 7 p.m. on PCN. The show will focus on the state budget, property taxes, and other legislative priorities as the Pennsylvania Senate enters some of its busiest months of the year.

Efforts to eliminate the property tax took a small step forward last week with the re-introduction of Senate Bill 76. When the proposal last came up for a vote it was tied at 24 for and 24 against. Ultimately, the bill failed when Lieutenant Governor Michael Stack’s “no” vote broke the tie.

There is a long list of special interests who oppose our legislation, but I am grateful that there is also a list of more than 80 dedicated, grassroots organizations who support it. It is incredibly frustrating to me that we cannot gather enough support in the House, the Senate, and from the Governor to pass SB 76 to eliminate school property taxes but we’ll continue to consider all possible alternatives.

In addition to focusing on property taxes, the show will include discussion of the state budget. The Senate Appropriations Committee recently completed the first of three weeks of public hearings with various department and agency leaders. Coverage of the budget hearings is available here.

The program begins at 7 p.m. on your local PCN channel, which can be found here.

If you would like to share your comments or questions on any of these topics, all state residents are encouraged to participate by calling 1-877-726-5001.
