This month’s Argall Report: Rebuilding Pennsylvania’s Economy

HARRISBURG – This month’s local TV program hosted by Senator David G. Argall (R-Berks/Schuylkill) focuses on the safe rebuilding of Pennsylvania’s economy following Governor Wolf’s mandated business shutdown.

In order to hear directly from those who were negatively affected by the shutdown, the Senate Majority Policy Committee, chaired by Senator Argall, held a series of workshop discussions with regional employers, employees, health officials, chambers of commerce, and other concerned groups.

“Pennsylvania has experienced a roller coaster economy since the Governor’s unilateral shutdown and it has taken both a mental and economic toll,” said Senator Argall. “We went from a period of record low unemployment to a period of high unemployment and economic turmoil. Some employers were forced to shut their doors forever while employees had to turn to a broken unemployment system administered by broken leadership at the Department of Labor and Industry. It’s time to safely rebuild our economy so that our citizens can once again re-invest in their communities and re-invest in their lives.”

This edition of the Argall Report highlights two recent meetings of the Senate Majority Policy Committee. On June 16, the Committee held a workshop discussion on northeastern Pennsylvania’s economy and COVID-19. Featured panelists for this conversation include U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA 9th District), Robert Carl from the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, Savas Logothetides of the Wheel Restaurant, Loren Collura of Hope and Coffee in Tamaqua, Deb Cody of Studio 16 Salon, and UPMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Steven Shapiro.

On June 24, the Committee held a workshop discussion on southeastern Pennsylvania’s economy and COVID-19. Featured panelists for this conversation include Katherine Hetherington Cunfer of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, Chris Pruitt of East Penn Manufacturing, Kristi Gage-Linderman of Gage Personnel.
