Joint Senate workshop studies the economic health of Pennsylvania’s cities

LANCASTER – The Senate Majority Policy Committee and the Senate Local Government Committee will hold a joint workshop to study the economic health of Pennsylvania’s cities. This workshop will take place on Thursday July 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lancaster City Hall, 120 North Duke St, Lancaster, PA.

“Smaller cities like Lancaster face a variety of different financial, structural and economic challenges that have a direct impact not only on city residents, but also neighboring communities,” said Local Government Committee Chair Senator Scott Martin (R-Lancaster). “I look forward to hearing different perspectives on which financial and economic development approaches are working best, and how Third Class cities can best be positioned to thrive in the future.”

“We have 55 cities in Pennsylvania,” said Majority Policy Committee Chair Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks). “Some of these communities are thriving but others are struggling and in need of economic revitalization. Our goal for this workshop is to discuss the challenges facing these cities and to hear opinions from a coalition of state officials, local officials and community representatives about the best paths forward.”
