Senate approves renaming of Schuylkill County bridge in memory of A. Donald Buffington

HARRISBURG – The Senate unanimously approved a proposal sponsored by Senator David G. Argall (R-29) to rename a bridge on State Route 4011, Gap Road, and crosses Pine Creek in memory of A. Donald Buffington. This commemorates Mr. Buffington’s faithful service to his community.

Mr. Buffington was from Hegins Township and served as a board member of the Valley View Park Association and as a member of the Tri-Valley School Board for several decades. Mr. Buffington graduated from the former Hegins Township High School in 1947 and from the former Eckles College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia in 1949. He was the Funeral Director for the former Buffington Funeral Home and the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, both of Valley View.

Mr. Buffington was also active as a baseball coach and was the first Teener League coach from Schuylkill County to win the State Championship in 1970. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Hegins, Valley View Gun Club, and Valley View Fire Company.

“This is a tribute to a gentleman who devoted his life to serving his community to make it a better place,” Argall added.

Senate Bill 593 heads to the House of Representatives for its consideration.
