ASTON – The Senate Majority Policy Committee will discuss ideas to stop DUI repeat offenders during a public roundtable discussion at Neumann University. This event was requested by Senator Tom Killion (R-Delaware/Chester) after the tragic death of Deana Eckman which received widespread media attention.
“Drafting legislation in Harrisburg requires input from the community, especially when it involves tragic situations like these,” said committee chairman Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks). “Last year, we were able to enact meaningful legislation on this issue but more should be done. This roundtable will help us to take our next steps.”
“Our hearts continue to break for Deana Eckman’s family,” said Senator Tom Killion. “I have proposed Deana’s Law to help reduce the tragedies caused by repeat DUI offenders. This hearing will provide ideas from law enforcement, Deana’s family and other experts on how legislation could have saved this young woman’s life.”
Brookhaven Borough resident Deana Eckman was killed in a car crash on February 16, 2019. The driver that killed her and caused injuries to her husband was highly intoxicated during the crash and had previously been convicted of five DUI offenses.
The Senate Majority Policy Committee will hold the event on Monday, May 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Neumann University’s Mullen Communications Center Student Multipurpose Hall. Neumann University is located at One Neumann Drive in Aston, Pennsylvania.
