HARRISBURG – The Senate Majority Policy Committee will take a closer look at the effects of outmigration or “Brain Drain” from Pennsylvania during a public workshop discussion on Tuesday April 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. in Hearing Room One of the North Office Building in Harrisburg.
“This will be a very informative discussion which I hope will shed some light on why so many talented young people are leaving the state” committee chairman Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) said. “My goal for this workshop is to look at the demographic data regarding outmigration and to have a meaningful discussion as to what we can do from a policy standpoint to reverse those trends which are encouraging people to leave.”
According to the Webster Dictionary, Brain Drain is defined as “the departure of educated or professional people from one country, economic sector, or field for another usually for better pay or living conditions.”
The workshop discussion will provide statistics and opinions from representatives of the Independent Fiscal Office, Harrisburg Young Professionals, the Commonwealth Foundation, the PA Department of Education, the PA Department of Labor and Industry and demographic experts from Penn State University.
