Argall Announces Gordon Grant

HARRISBURG – Gordon Borough and the Citizens Fire Company No. 1 recently received a $25,000 state grant, according to State Senator David G. Argall (R-29).

The funds, $15,000 allocated to the Borough and $10,000 allocated to the Fire Company, were provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.  The grant was applied for through the office of the late Senator James J. Rhoades.

"The initiatives funded by this grant will help improve energy costs as well as emergency services within the Borough," said Argall.  "I am pleased Gordon was able to secure this grant."

The money will provide for the installation of new windows in the Borough social hall, the purchase of new tables and chairs for the Council Chambers, as well as a new fire alert system.  Additional funds were also provided for community beautification upgrades.

"This funding is welcomed with open arms, especially given the current state of the economy," said Mayor Nick Troutman.  "You can't make these renovations with 'good intentions' – it takes dollars."

"On behalf of the Citizens Fire Company No. 1, we are extremely happy that the Borough was able to secure these funds for our fire company and the residents of our community," said John Snyder, Fire Company President.  "The grant will be used to replace the fire siren and install additional fire apparatus to improve our emergency services."
