Argall Hosts Community Revitalization Summits

POTTSVILLE – In an effort to highlight successful statewide community revitalization initiatives, State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) hosted the first of two local Summits today aimed at providing information for local communities to fight blight and create local jobs.

"I am hopeful that this workshop will provide local municipal officials with additional tools that will help revitalize their communities," Argall said.  "There are many aspects to community revitalization including redevelopment of empty store fronts, job creation and retention, and expanding economic development," Argall added.

The Summit addressed three specific areas:  Fighting Blight, Municipal and Regional Planning and Tax Incentive Programs.  On hand to present on these issues were Jerry Teter, Mahanoy City Borough Manager, who discussed the Borough's Demolition Program; Irene McLaughlin, Pennsylvania Housing Alliance who discussed Conservatorship; Jeri Stumpf, who discussed Code Enforcement; as well as Dorenda Updegrave and Helen Miernicki of the Pennsylvania Realtors Association.

Additionally, Tom Hylton, Author of "Save Our Land, Save Our Town" and Kevin Schreiber, Economic Director for the City of York were on hand to discuss Municipal and Regional Planning and Tax Incentive Programs.

"I am pleased that we are all able to come together to discuss new ideas and initiatives and hopefully many of the topics discussed this evening can be implemented in our local communities," Argall said.
