Argall, Harhart Announce PENNVEST Loan For Slatington Borough Authority

HARRISBURG - State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and Representative Julie Harhart (R-183) today announced approximately $4.7 million in grants and $2.3 million in low-interest loans to the Slatington Borough Authority for their Sanitary System Improvement Project.

The scope of this project will rehabilitate and replace approximately 80% of the entire Borough collection system.  In addition to the sewer mains and laterals, all manholes will be removed and replaced where the sanitary sewer is being replaced and where the mains will be relined.

"We as members of the General Assembly are charged with being effective stewards of taxpayer dollars, especially in these difficult economic times," Harhart said. "Having said that, there are certain investments that must be made in order to keep pace with the growing needs of our communities. Financing the infrastructure of our citizens is among the more essential of those investments."

The grants and loans were approved yesterday by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), which fund sewer, storm water and drinking water projects throughout Pennsylvania.

"As we look at the aging infrastructure of many of our local communities, it has never been more important to support their efforts to improve water quality and provide adequate sewage disposal to maintain the health of residents in and around Slatington Borough," Argall said.  "I am pleased the Commonwealth invested in this important project."

"I think this is a wonderful opportunity for the Slatington Borough Authority, working in conjunction with the Borough of Slatington, to repair their sanitary sewer system with a minimal increase in monthly user fees," said Ted Stevenson, the Authority's Engineering Representative.  "Opportunities such as the one presented to the Borough Authority come along once in a lifetime and cannot be passed by."
