Argall Supports Measures To Reduce College Costs

HARRISBURG - The Senate Education Committee approved legislation this week to reduce costs for students at Pennsylvania's colleges and universities, according to State Senator David G. Argall (R-29), who supported the measures.

"As a recent Penn State Ph.D. student and father of two college students, I see firsthand the need for cost control measures at our higher education institutions," Argall said. "Attending an institution of higher learning should not be a privilege limited to upper income families."

The Senate Education Committee unanimously approved three measures to reduce college costs:

Senate Bill 820 requires most Pennsylvania colleges and universities to accept each others' credits to reduce the costs for students who transfer from one institution to another; Senate Bill 929 would provide for an experimental program encouraging lower costs for college textbooks; Senate Bill 881 would establish a Tuition Control Study Commission to review additional tuition cost controls on Pennsylvania colleges and universities.

"I was pleased to support these bills, not only as a Senator, but also as a parent," Argall said. "We must find an affordable way to help students of all ages to attend Pennsylvania colleges and universities."
