Senate and House approve renaming of Schuylkill County bridge in memory of A. Donald Buffington

HARRISBURG – The State Senate and the House of Representatives have approved House Bill 65, which includes a proposal to rename a bridge on State Route 4011, Gap Road, in memory of A. Donald Buffington according to Senator David G Argall (R-29). This commemorates Buffington’s faithful service to his community.

Buffington was from Hegins Township and served as a board member of the Valley View Park Association and as a member of the Tri-Valley School Board for several decades. Mr. Buffington graduated from the former Hegins Township High School in 1947 and from the former Eckles College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia in 1949. He was the Funeral Director for the former Buffington Funeral Home and the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, both of Valley View.

Buffington was also active as a baseball coach and was the first Teener League coach from Schuylkill County to win the State Championship in 1970. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Hegins, Valley View Gun Club, and Valley View Fire Company.

“This is a tribute to a gentleman who devoted his life to serving his community to make it a better place.  When the Valley View Park Association asked us to introduce this legislation, we quickly agreed, given Donald’s long record of community service in the Hegins Valley,” Argall added.

The bill will now move to the Governor’s desk.
