CANCELLED – Argall set to host over 60 high school students at upcoming student government event

Due to ongoing budget negotiations in Harrisburg between the House, Senate and Governor, we must cancel the Berks Senator for a Day event for tomorrow, October 5th.  Without moderators and lobbyists to assist with the program, I cannot proceed with my staff alone.

Sorry for the short notice, but I was hoping that the budget would be resolved and the program could go on.

Please mark your calendars and plan to join me when we sponsor a similar event at PSU Schuylkill on Thursday, May 10, 2018.   Invitations will follow in the new year.
Senator Dave Argall

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN – Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) is expecting over 60 high school students at his upcoming annual “Senator for a Day” student government seminar on Thursday, October 5 at Penn State University Berks Campus.

The event is set to kickoff at 8:30 a.m. with Sen. Argall welcoming the local high school students from 7 area schools to his annual event in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.

Students will be split into four separate committees to debate bills that mirror similar proposals under consideration in the state legislature. For example, students will debate school property tax elimination, liquor store privatization, welfare reform measures, sales tax expansion to cover digital product transactions, among several others.

Below is an agenda for Argall’s student government seminar:

8:30 a.m. – Senator Argall remarks about understanding the legislative process
9:00 a.m. – Students attend their mock committee meetings to debate and vote on bills
11:00 a.m. – Lunch
11:40 a.m. – General session and Q&A with Sen. Argall
1:30 p.m. – Dismissal
