Argall applauds Senate passage of bill to protect patients and providers

HARRISBURG – Legislation that will provide much-needed protection for patients and health care providers was unanimously approved by the Senate, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks).

“This measure will put safeguards in place for medical providers,” Argall said. “More importantly, patients and their doctors won’t have to worry past a reasonable time period that insurers could retroactively deny reimbursement.”

Currently, insurance companies may retroactively deny reimbursement to health care providers at any time and unilaterally reduce future payments to recover the denied amount. The bill would limit insurers’ ability to retroactively deny reimbursements to two years.

The legislation was introduced by Sen. Argall in the Senate. Rep. Karen Boback (R-Luzerne) sponsored the House version of the bill.

The bill now heads to the governor for his signature.
