LIHEAP application period opens November 2

HARRISBURG – Families who are experiencing a heating emergency or are having trouble paying heating bills can apply for assistance beginning on Monday, November 2, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks).

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) offers grants to help low-income families pay their heating bills or deal with such heating emergencies as a broken furnace, fuel shortage or utility service shutoff.

LIHEAP applications can be completed online on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Access to Social Services (COMPASS) website at www.compass.state.pa.us or at any of Senator Argall’s local offices:

  • One West Centre Street, Third Floor, Mahanoy City
  • 100 North Centre Street, Pottsville (shared with Rep. Tobash)
  • 237 West Broad Street, Tamaqua (shared with Rep. Knowles)
  • 61 North Third Street, Hamburg (shared with Rep. Knowles)
  • 2850 Windmill Road, Spring Township

“Energy costs are among the biggest concerns for consumers each winter,” Argall said. “I encourage families throughout the region to learn more about LIHEAP and other programs offered by utility companies to ensure no one is left in the cold this winter.”

In order to apply for LIHEAP, applicants will be required to submit the names of all people in the household, Social Security numbers for all household members, proof of income for all household members and a recent heating bill.
