Senate sponsors, grassroots activists of Property Tax Independence Act release statement on status of effort

HARRISBURG – The Senate sponsors of Senate Bill 76, including Senators David G. Argall (R-29), Mike Folmer (R-48), Judy Schwank (D-11), John Yudichak (D-14) and Lisa Boscola (D-18), released the following statement regarding the status of the Property Tax Independence Act in the Senate:

“We have fought in a bipartisan manner to advance the issue of meaningful property tax reform. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Brubaker has worked very hard to advance our efforts within his committee, but we remain short on the votes needed to advance it out of committee. At the suggestion of the grassroots groups who brought us the original legislation, we will find a way for a vote on the full Senate floor on this key issue. While we would have hoped it would have been sooner, with 25 co-sponsors, this is the farthest this issue has ever made it in the state Senate. We remain 100 percent committed to eliminating school property taxes for all Pennsylvanians.”

David Baldinger, who serves as the spokesman for the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations, voiced his support for advancing the issue in the Senate:

“Countless property owners are demanding relief from this crippling tax. We have pushed and will continue to push to bring a vote in the Senate. We look forward to the Senate having a thorough and honest debate on this issue.”
